Praying to Forget

For he shall not much remember the days of his life; *because God answereth him in the joy of his heart.~ Ecclesiastes 5:20 KJV
*NEW KJV – “because God keeps him Busy with the joy of his heart.”
The question has been posed is, “Is praying to forget, good?”
The follow up question would be, “Is God allowing our brains to forget, a direct answer to this prayer?”
Is forgetting good?
Neurologists have concluded that we, humans, use a maximum of 10% of our brains.
Now psychology suggests that Selective/ motivated forgetting is a defence mechanism (theorized) in which people may forget unwanted harmful memories, either consciously or unconsciously. Also known as suppressing and repressing memories.
Repression is defined as: unconsciously
Suppression: is making the decision to forget.
Because most people find themselves in a deep state of depression upon the resurfacing of these memories, this makes repressed memories dangerous. Some of these people may require institutionalisation. Now these memories may resurface at any time. The mind is unfortunately not able to survive the emotional trauma of these suppressed incidents. Leading to suicide and self loathing.
Now many of us do not repress our memories, but technically you would not know it until your psychologist has informed you thusly.
Suppressing memories can only lead to more heart ache, should the memory return, you are still to have to deal with it emotionally. Ecclesiastes 12:14 “For God will bring every deed into judgement, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.” NIV
And worse still if it is a result of our own actions, we can be sure that it has not been forgotten by God. UNLESS…
1. We depend on Him fully.
We need to search God’s word for comfort just as we would call a friend. You may be sick or hurting because of your own actions. Just as it is in fire’s nature to burn, so it is in sin’s nature to destroy us.
Psalm 23:4 “…your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
Job 11:13 -17 “Yet if you devote your heart to him and stretch out your hands to him, if you put away the sin that is in your hand and allow no evil to dwell in your tent, then you will lift up your face without shame; you will stand firm and without fear. You will surely forget your trouble, recalling it as only waters gone by. Life will be brighter than noonday, and darkness will become like morning.”
Lamentations 3:40 “Let us search and try our ways and turn again to our God.”
2. We accept that forgetting is not God’s will for us
By allowing the belief that suppressing memories is helpful and good, the devil has removed the need for us to remember and repent.
And is that not his main aim? To render the need for Salvation or a law of God useless? He is spreading the message that we don’t need forgiveness, all we need to do is to forget?
Memories are never truly lost; therapy or a photograph may lead to the remembrance. But did God create this defence mechanism? Forgetting is usually due to the absence of peace. And if God offers peace that surpasses all understanding, how could He be in favour of suppressing memories?
The devil has slyly rationalised the need of our memory suppression. He has devised a way for people to think they have found a semblance of peace by in fact destroying our mind or our sanity.
The most common cause for institutionalised depressed patients’ depression; is the resurfacing of repressed and suppressed hurtful memories.
Many of us suppress memories. We consciously decide to forget the pain that sin has inflicted on us. Pain like a broken heart, the memory of a spouse’s infidelity, abuse in all its forms, phone numbers, lyrics to a song etc.
Take note; search within your own experiences the things you wish to forget. Of what are they a result of? Sin? Either your own transgression or someone else’s. Some may pray to forget, because they know that the God they serve is compassionate. Somehow we have concluded that forgetting our pain is something that God has permitted us to do. We assume that which we do not remember no longer exists. Ecclesiastes 1:15 “… what is lacking cannot be counted” NIV
Let the desire to forget no longer linger within us.
God said, Isaiah 43:25, “I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; and I will not remember your sins. “ NKJV
NIV 26 “Review the past for me, let us argue the matter together; state the case for your innocence.”
We should pray to remember that which hurts us. So we may forgive and ask for forgiveness where it is due.
Genesis 1:31 “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.” NIV
Let us live happily and peacefully, by accepting Jesus as our saviour and comfort. Let us return to our first love. A love that will never break our hearts and forgives and forgets accordingly. Through Him we can overcomes our fear, grief and sin …. So that we may be with Him in paradise.

ReGaining Eden Part 2
Let me touch a very sensitive subject "meat-eating".This is important because before we see God greater reforms should be seen among God's people.
"There is no evidence of genuine repentance unless it works reformation."GC,p506
Let me start from Eden since we are from eden to eden.
"And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat."--Genesis 1:29
"It was not in the plan of God in creation that the life of any of His creatures should be taken.Death, in man or beast, wherever it might exist,came in consequence of sin,and this whole mammoth custom of taking the life of God's creatures to sustain human life,is simply the fruit of transgression.Had our first parents maintained their Eden innocence,had the curse never fallen upon man or beast,the earth would never have been stained with a drop of blood;the almost universal custom of flesh-eating, with its attendant pain and death, would never have been known. The Creator, in definately stating what should constitute food for man, did not mention flesh." "C.T.B.H p169.
"Even in this life it is not for our good to depart from the will of our Father in heaven. When we learn the power of His word, we shall not follow the suggestions of Satan in order to obtain food or to save our lives. Our only questions will be, What is God's command? and what His promise? Knowing these, we shall obey the one, and trust the other."DA 121.2.
In Numbers chapter 11-We see God tried to make His people vegetarians when He took them out of Egypt.It is important that we study the history of the children of Israel so that we may not repeat the same mistakes.Consider these qoutes:
"Satan's snares are laid for us as verily as they were laid for the children of Israel just prior to their entrance into the land of Canaan. We are repeating the history of that people."5T,p160
"I have seen that self-glorification was becoming common among Seventh-day Adventists and that unless the pride of man should be abased and Christ exalted we should, as a people, be in no better condition to receive Christ at His second advent than were the Jewish people to receive Him at His first advent."5T ,p727.3.
Let me look closely what happened....
"And the mixt multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?"--Numbers 11:4
"And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust."--Psalm 78:18.
Then Moses sayed "Whence should I have flesh to give unto all this people? for they weep unto me, saying, Give us flesh, that we may eat."--Numbers 11:13.
Then the Lord gave them their own desire--"And there went forth a wind from the LORD, and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, as it were a day's journey on this side, and as it were a day's journey on the other side, round about the camp, and as it were two cubits high upon the face of the earth."Number 11:31.
NB-"And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the people with a very great plague.And he called the name of that place Kibrothhattaavah: because there they buried the people that lusted."Numbers 11:33,34.
Pork eaters be reminded--"They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst, eating swine's flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed together, saith the LORD."--Isaiah 66:17
Paul says--"Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted...Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come."1 Corinthians 10:6,11
" Our habits of eating and drinking show whether we are of the world or among the number whom the Lord by His mighty cleaver of truth has separated from the world. These are His peculiar people, zealous of good works. God has spoken in His word. In the case of Daniel and his three companions there are sermons upon health reform. God has spoken in the history of the children of Israel, from whom for their good He sought to withhold a flesh diet. He fed them with bread from heaven; "man did eat angel's food." But they encouraged their earthly appetite; and the more they centered their thoughts upon the fleshpots of Egypt, the more they hated the food which God gave them to keep them in health physically, mentally, and morally. They longed for the fleshpots, and in this they did just as many in our own time have done. "6T ,p 372.2
"Satan, the author of disease and misery, will approach God's people where he can have the greatest success. He has controlled the appetite in a great measure from the time of his successful experiment with Eve, in leading her to eat the forbidden fruit. He came with his temptations first to the mixed multitude, the beiliving Egyptians, and stirred them up to seditions murmurings.They would not be content with the healthful food which God had provided for them. Their depraved appetite craved a greater variety, especially flesh-meats.This murmuring soon infected nearly the whole body of the people."SOP. Vol 1,p281.
Lets here what the prophet says now........
"The Lord intends to bring His people back to live upon simple fruits, vegetables, and grains. He led the children of Israel into the wilderness where they could not get a flesh diet; and He gave
them bread from heaven. Man did eat angel's food. But they craved the flesh pots of Egypt, and mourned and cried for flesh, notwithstanding that the Lord had proposed that if they would
submit to His will, He would carry them into the land of Canaan, and establish them there, a pure, holy, happy people, and there would not be a feeble one in all their habitations, for He would
take away all sickness from among them. But although they had a plain 'thus saith the Lord,' they mourned, and wept, and murmured, and complained, it displeased the Lord;..." SpM45-46
"Again and again I have been shown that God is trying to lead us back, step by step, to His original design,-- that man should subsist upon the natural products of the earth. Vegetables, fruits, and grains should compose our diet. Not an ounce of flesh meat should enter our stomachs. The eating of flesh is unnatural. We are to return to God's original purpose in the creation of man." Counsels on Diet and Foods, pg. 380.
"Meat eating...has always been a curse to the human family..., and our only safety now is in leaving meat entirely alone." Counsels on Diet and Foods,p 412
"Will the people who are seeking to become holy, pure, refined, that they may be introduced into the society of heavenly angels, continue to take the life of God's creatures, and enjoy their flesh as a luxury? From what the Lord has shown me, this order of things will be changed, and God's peculiar people will exercise temperance in all things." CTBH 48.2.
"...we do not hesitate to say that flesh meat is not necessary for health or strength. If used it is because a depraved appetite craves it. Its use excites the animal propensities to increased activity and strengthens the animal passions. When the animal propensities are increased, the intellectual and moral powers are decreased. The use of the flesh of animals tends to cause a grossness of body and benumbs the fine sensibilities of the mind."2T p63.2.
“If ever there was a time when the diet should be of the most simple kind, it is now. Meat should not be placed before our children. Its influence is to excite and strengthen the lower passions, and has a tendency to deaden the moral powers. Grains and fruits prepared free from grease, and in as natural a condition as possible, should be the food for the tables of all who claim to be preparing for translation to heaven.” 2T 352
"Those who believe present truth...should refuse to eat flesh meat." EV 265
"It has been clearly presented to me that God's people are to take a firm stand against meat eating." CDF 383
"Those who use flesh meat disregard all the warnings that God has given us concerning this question. They have no evidence they are walking in safe paths." Ibid., p. 383.
"Among those who are waiting for the coming of the Lord, meat eating will eventually be
done away; flesh will cease to form a part of their diet. We should ever keep this end in view, and endeavour to work steadily toward it." Counsels on Health, p. 450.
"Those who are in a position where it is possible to secure a vegetarian diet, but who choose to follow their own preferences in this matter, eating and drinking as they please, will gradually
grow careless of the instruction the Lord has given regarding other phases of the present truth and will lose their perception of what is truth." Testimonies, Vol. 9, pp. 156, 157.
"Many who are now only half converted on the question of meat eating will go from God's people, to walk no more with them .... Far better give up the name of Christian than make a profession and
at the same time indulge appetites which strengthen unholy passions .... [God] calls for decided reformation." Counsels on Health,pp. 575-579.
"Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are."--1 Corinthians 3:16,17.
"What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's."--1 Corinthians 6:19,20 .

ReGaining Eden Part 1
How did we lose Eden and how can will we gain it back?..."And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat."Genesis 3:6

""Adam and Eve fell through intemperate appetite. Christ came and withstood the fiercest temptation of Satan, and, in behalf of the race, overcame appetite, showing that man may overcome. As Adam fell through appetite, and lost blissful Eden, the children of Adam may, through Christ, overcome appetite, and through temperance in all things regain Eden."Counsels on Diet and Foods ,p70
"As our first parents lost Eden through the indulgence of appetite, our only hope of regaining Eden is through the firm denial of appetite and passion."3T ,p491
Christ came to redeem us on the point on which Adam fell...

It is possible brethren....
"But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself."Daniel 1:8.
JUST FOR FUN-In Daniel 6 maybe the lions purposed in their hearts that they will not defile themselves with the body of a vegetarian man :).
If lions were able to control their appetites ,sure we can.
"Christ fought the battle upon the point of appetite, and came off victorious; and we also can conquer through strength derived from Him. Who will enter in through the gates into the city?--Not those who declare that they cannot break the force of appetite. Christ has resisted the power of him who would hold us in bondage; though weakened by His long fast of forty days, He withstood temptation, and proved by this act that our cases are not hopeless. I know that we cannot obtain the victory alone; and how thankful we should be that we have a living Saviour, who is ready and willing to aid us!"CD, p169
"A pure and noble life, a life of victory over appetite and lust, is possible to every one who will unite his weak, wavering human will to the omnipotent, unwavering will of God."CD,p170.
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. "--Philippians 4:13.

It's Jewish
When we present God's holy law,
And arguments from scripture draw;
Objectors say, to pick a flaw,
"It's Jewish."
Though at the first Jehovah blessed
And sanctified HIS day of rest;
The same belief is still expressed -
"It's Jewish."
Though with the world this rest began,
And thence through all the scriptures ran,
And Jesus said 'twas made for man -
"It's Jewish."
Though not with Jewish rites, which passed,
But with the moral law 'twas classed
Which must endure while time shall last -
"It's Jewish."
Though the disciples, Luke and Paul,
Continue still this rest to call
The "Sabbath day," this answers all -
"It's Jewish."
The gospel teachers' plain expression,
That "Sin is of the law transgression,"
Seems not to make the least impression -
"It's Jewish."
They love the rest of man's invention,
But if Jehovah's day we mention,
This puts an end to all contention -
"It's Jewish."
O ye who thus Gods day abuse,
Simply because twas kept by Jews,
The Saviour, too, you must refuse -
He's Jewish.
Thus the apostles, too, must fall;
For Andrew, Peter, James, and Paul,
And Thomas, Matthew, John, and all
Were Jewish.
But when old Earth shall pass away,
And be renewed the Sabbath day
Honored by all - one then will say,
"Its Jewish."
And while Eternitys glad days
Roll on and on with ceaseless rays,
The theme will be Jehovah's praise,
And that in universal lays -
Not Jewish.

Dare To Stand Alone
It is human to stand with the crowd; it is divine to stand alone.
It is manlike to follow the people, to drift with the tide; it is godlike to follow a principle, to stem the tide.
It is natural to compromise conscience and follow the social and religious fashion for the sake of gain or pleasure; it is divine to sacrifice both on the altar of truth and duty.
“No man stood with me, but all men forsook me,” wrote the battle-scarred apostle in describing his first appearance before Nero to answer for his life for believing and teaching contrary to the Roman world.
Noah built and voyaged alone. His neighbors laughed at his strangeness, and perished.
Abraham wandered and worshiped alone. The Sodomites smiled at the simple shepherd, followed the fashion, and fed the flames.
Daniel dined and prayed alone. Elijah sacrificed and witnessed alone. Jeremiah prophesied and wept alone. Jesus loved and died alone.
And of the lonely way his disciples should walk he said, “Strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
Of their treatment by the many who walk in the broad way he said, “If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world,…therefore the world hateth you.”
The church in the wilderness praised Abraham and persecuted Moses. The church of the Kings praised Moses and persecuted the prophets. The church of Caiaphas praised the prophets and persecuted Jesus. The church of the popes praised the Saviour, and persecuted the saints. And multitudes now, in both the church and the world, applaud the courage and fortitude of the patriarchs and prophets, the apostles and martyrs, but condemn as stubbornness or foolishness like faithfulness to truth to-day.
Wanted, to-day, men and women, young and old, who will obey their convictions of truth and duty at the cost of fortune and friends and life itself!

THE CHURCH AND THE WORLD
The Church and the World walked far apart
On the changing shore of Time;
The world was singing a giddy song,
And the Church a hymn sublime.
"Come, give me your hand," cried the merry World,
"And walk with me this way;"
But the good Church hid her snowy hands,
And solemnly answered, "Nay;
I will not give you my hand at all,
And I will not walk with you;
Your way is the way to endless death;
Your words are all untrue."
"Nay, walk with me but a little space,"
Said the World with a kindly air;
"The road I walk is a pleasant road,
And the sun shines always there.
Your path is thorny, and rough, and rude,
And mine is broad and plain;
My road is paved with flowers and dews
And yours with tears and pain.
The sky above me is always blue;
No want, no toil, I know:
The sky above you is always dark,
Your lot is a lot of woe.
My path, you see, is a broad, fair one
And my gate is high and wide;
There is room enough for you and for me
To travel side by side."
Half shyly the Church approached the World,
And gave him her hand of snow;
The old World quick grasped it and walked along,
Saying in accents low;
"Your dress is too simple to please my taste;
I will give you pearls to wear,
Rich velvets and silks for your graceful form,
And diamonds to deck your hair."
The Church looked down at her plain white robes
And then at the dazzling World,
And blushed as she saw his handsome lip
With a smile contemptuous curled..
"I will change my dress for a costlier one,"
Said the Church with a smile of grace:
Then the pure white garments drifted away,
And the World gave in their place
Beautiful silks and shining satins,
And roses and gems and pearls,
And over her forehead her bright hair fell,
Crisped in a thousand curls.
"Your house is too plain," said the proud old World;
"I’ll build you one like mine,
Carpets of Brussels, and curtains of lace
And furniture ever so fine."
So he built her a costly and beautiful house,
Splendid it was to behold;
Her sons and her beautiful daughters dwelt there,
Gleaming in purple and gold;
And fairs and shows in the halls were held,
And the World and his children were there;
And laughter and music and feasts were heard
In the place that was meant for prayer.
She had cushioned pews for the rich and great
To sit in their pomp and pride;
While the poor folk, clad in their shabby suits,
Sat meekly down outside.
The Angel of Mercy flew over the Church,
And whispered, "I know thy sin:"
Then the Church looked back with a sigh and longed
To gather her children in;
But some were off at the midnight ball,
And some were off at the play,
And some were drinking in gay saloons,
So she quietly went her way.
Then the sly World gallantly said to her:
"Your children mean no harm,
Merely indulging in innocent sports;"
So she leaned on his proffered arm
And smiled and chatted and gathered flowers
As she walked along with the World;
While millions and millions of sorrowing souls
To eternal death were hurled.
"Your preachers are all too old and plain,"
Said the World to the Church with a sneer
"They frighten my children with dreadful tales,
Which I like not for them to hear.
They talk of brimstone and fire and pain
And the night of an endless death;
They talk of a place which may only be
Mentioned with bated breath.
I will send you some of the better stamp,
Brilliant and gay and fast,
Who will tell them that people may live as they choose
And go to heaven at last.
The Father is merciful, great and good,
Tender and true and kind;
Do you think he would take one child to heaven,
And leave the other behind?"
So he filled her house with gay divines,
Gifted and great and learned,
And the plain old men that preached the cross
Were out of her pulpits turned.
"You give too much to the poor," said the world,
"Far more than you ought to do;
If the poor need shelter and food and clothes,
Why need it trouble you?
Go, take your money and buy rich robes,
And horses and carriages fine,
And pearls and jewels and dainty foods,
And the rarest and costliest wine!
My children, they dote on all such things;
And if you their love would win,
You must do as they do and walk in the ways
That they are walking in."
Then the Church held tightly the strings of her purse
And gracefully lowered her head,
And whispered, "I've given too much away;
I'll do, sir, as you have said."
So the poor were turned from her door in scorn,
And she drew her robes aside
As the widows went weeping on their way;
With all their needs denied,
And the sons of the world and the sons of the church
Walked closely hand and heart,
And only the Master who knoweth all
Could tell the two apart.
Then the Church sat down at her ease, and said,
"I am rich, and with goods increased;
I have need of nothing, and naught to do
But to laugh and dance and feast."
And the sly World heard her and laughed up his sleeve,
And mockingly said aside;
"The Church is fallen, the beautiful Church
And her shame is her boast and pride."
The angel drew near to the mercy-seat,
And whispered in sighs her name,
And the saints their anthems of rapture hushed,
And covered their heads with shame.
Then a voice came down through the hush of heaven
From Him who sat on the throne:
"I know thy works, and how thou has said,
'I am rich,' and hast not known
That thou art naked, and poor, and blind,
And wretched before my face.
Unless thou repent I will cast thee out
And blot thy name from its place.
I counsel thee to buy of Me
The gold that will make you rich;
And anoint your eyes with the heavenly salve
To discern your Maker's wish."
Then the awakened Church with deep regret
From her worldly course returned;
She opened her heart to the knock of Christ
As His love in her bosom burned.
And gave her robes and forgave her sins,
And together they sat and supped;
His proffered throne He shared with her
For whom He had suffered much.
O Church of Christ, hear the Spirit's voice
As He calls through the world today.
Would that every church throughout the realm
Would turn from the world away.
The world will be lost in eternal night,
But the penitent saved for aye.

Unless thou repent I will cast thee out
And blot thy name from its place.
I counsel thee to buy of Me
The gold that will make you rich;
And anoint your eyes with the heavenly salve
To discern your Maker's wish."
Then the awakened Church with deep regret
From her worldly course returned;
She opened her heart to the knock of Christ
As His love in her bosom burned.
And gave her robes and forgave her sins,
And together they sat and supped;
His proffered throne He shared with her
For whom He had suffered much.
O Church of Christ, hear the Spirit's voice
As He calls through the world today.
Would that every church throughout the realm
Would turn from the world away.
The world will be lost in eternal night,
But the penitent saved for aye.
